Moral injury is an increasingly important area of research, practice and public discussion across military and veteran communities, healthcare, emergency services and other settings in which people encounter morally challenging experiences.
ANZMIC 2027 will bring together researchers, clinicians, chaplains and spiritual care practitioners, educators, policy makers, organisational leaders, practitioners, and people with lived and living experience to advance our collective understanding of moral injury and the possibilities for prevention, care and moral repair.
We welcome empirical research, theoretical and conceptual work, innovative practice, interdisciplinary perspectives, and contributions informed by lived and living experience.
Submissions are invited across three interconnected conference streams:
Connection:
“Connecting research, practice, lived and living experience to advance understanding of moral injury.”
This stream explores how connections between disciplines, professions, communities and different forms of knowledge can deepen our understanding of moral injury.
Submissions may examine emerging research, conceptual and theoretical developments, interdisciplinary collaboration, lived and living experience, relationships, communities, families, culture, spirituality, or other perspectives that illuminate how moral injury is experienced, understood and addressed.
Compassion:
“Advancing compassionate, evidence-informed approaches to prevention, care and moral repair.”
This stream focuses on how individuals, communities and organisations respond to moral injury and accompany those affected by it.
Submissions may address clinical and therapeutic interventions, chaplaincy and spiritual care, peer and community support, prevention and early intervention, trauma-informed practice, moral repair, rehabilitation, organisational responses, or innovative models of care.
Purpose:
“Inspiring research, practice and leadership that foster meaning, hope and human flourishing.”
This stream looks beyond recognising moral injury to consider how individuals, organisations and communities can create conditions that support moral agency, meaning, hope and flourishing.
Submissions may explore leadership, ethics, organisational culture, policy, education and training, prevention, resilience, meaning-making, spirituality, post-traumatic growth, moral repair, or emerging directions for research and practice.
An Invitation Across Disciplines
The three streams are intentionally interconnected. Authors are encouraged to nominate the stream that most closely reflects the primary focus of their submission; however, contributions that cross disciplinary or thematic boundaries are particularly welcome.
Whether your work is grounded in research, clinical practice, pastoral and spiritual care, leadership, policy, education, community practice, or lived and living experience, ANZMIC 2027 provides a forum to share knowledge, challenge assumptions, build connections, show compassion, and purposefully engage with the evolving field of moral injury.
Understanding moral injury. Advancing moral repair. Transforming lives through connection, compassion and purpose.
The ANZMIC 2027 will include presentation types as follows:
Standard Oral Presentation:

New Submission
- Log in to the Presentation Portal via the Conference Website. You will need to create an online account first – enter your email address and password.
- You will be taken to a screen from which the submission process starts. Please read the instructions on this screen carefully. You will need to update your details before you can submit your abstract.
- Submitting an abstract is a multi-step process. Each step asks several questions. Some questions are marked “required”, and you will not be able to complete your submission until these questions have been answered.
- If you stop part way through the process, your submission will be held in temporary storage until you return and complete all the questions. When you log in again you can click on your incomplete proposal and resume submission.
Make sure that you submit your abstract by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions before pressing the “submit” button, any abstracts left in ‘draft’ mode will not be submitted for review. You will receive a confirmation email for each successful abstract submitted. If you do not receive an email, log in again to check your abstract in “Edit Abstract/s”. Please note once you have submitted your abstract you cannot edit it again. However, you can leave your submission in “draft” mode and make changes up until the time you submit it.
Amending a Submission in “draft” mode
You may wish to change your answers to some of the questions on the submission form, or even change the abstract itself.
- Log in to the presentation portal, and click on the “Edit Abstract/s” tab.
- You will see a list of the abstracts that you have in draft mode or have submitted. Click on the “Edit” button next to the draft abstract you wish to change and submit.
- Amending an abstract is just the same as for the original submission process, except that the online form will be automatically completed with the answers that you provided previously. You don’t have to change an answer if you do not wish.
- When you reach the final ‘Submit’ step, click on the button stating that you “Agree to the Terms and Conditions” and click “Submit”. If this button is not available, look at the steps on the left-hand table and address the missing information that does not have a tick.
